Webinar Objectives:

  • Elucidate the basic processes of memory
  • Identify and distinguish common memory impairments
  • Review approaches and techniques to decrease the impact of memory impairment on criminal justice and legal proceedings

Description:

Memory impairments can have a significant impact on the criminal justice, forensic mental health, and legal systems. In this session, the presenter will address memory-related disorders. Memory-related disorders and impairments have a tremendous impact in legal settings and may disproportionately affect those who encounter the legal system (i.e., suspects, defendants, witnesses, and offenders). Memory impairments may adversely affect an individual’s capacity to make legal decisions (e.g., waive the right to an attorney or trial), competency to stand trial, or ability to provide eyewitness testimony.

A post-test, handout, and certificate of completion will be provided upon completion of this one-hour webinar.
