Description:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic and multifaceted metabolic disease and is considered a significant public health issue and global epidemic. Designed for professionals working in criminal justice, forensic mental health, and legal settings, this training provides attendees with a working understanding of the causes, consequences, and interventions associated with T2DM among criminal justice and forensic mental health-based populations. Regardless of criminal justice system phase (ranging from arrest to community supervision), undiagnosed and unmanaged T2DM can significantly impact a person’s mood, behavior, cognition, and physical health. A primary goal of this training is to learn why criminal justice, forensic mental health, and legal professionals should become T2DM informed. Empirically based research findings will be highlighted throughout this training.
