Webinar Objectives:

  • Discuss some of the historical challenges and recent tragedies between police and citizens
  • Identify key factors and dynamics of community policing and moving from “warrior” to “guardian” mentality
  • Highlight successful initiatives and examples of community policing and engagement and how we can get involved in our own communities

Description:

The tragic incidents have led to public outcry, civil unrest and police protests for social change across the U.S. causing the world to take notice in positing the question, "do Black lives really matter?”  This training will discuss and provide community initiatives the two cities took in opening up dialogue and bridging police-community relations leading to positive collaborative change, healing and reconciliation.


Presenter Biography:

Dr. Joshua Kirven is an associate professor in the Department of Social Work at Winthrop University. He is a clinical and community practitioner with over 25 years experience in the areas of fatherhood engagement, neighborhood leadership and empowerment, public safety, and youth reflective development. 

He is the founder and Chief Impact Officer of KirvKorp Impact Solutions, a strategic communications and impact consulting firm.  Dr. Kirven has over three decades of human capital and organizational practice with micro solution-oriented interventions and macro programming across communities and public-private sectors. He is a Fulbright Scholar and graduate of Hampton University, University of South Carolina and The Ohio State University, respectively.
